As i have mentioned before in previous blog posts, i study journalism at uni and i love it. I am currently learning teeline shorthand, which is one of the most difficult things i've ever had to learn. It is incredibly time consuming and i feel like i'm learning a secret code that only journalists and teeliners alike can decipher.
I have been doing the module of Shorthand from September 2012 and It is a year long module. I have 90 minutes of shorthand every day and it is a lot of hard work. I started off learning the teeline alphabet and now i am up to writing (almost) at 80wam. I remember the early days when our fortnightly assessments were done at 40/50wam. How i would love to be back at that stage now! However, I must have done something right as at our last assessment, i got moved up to the top class which is currently working at 80/90wam. I feel like I have progressed somewhat in the journalistic world which is great. Also, my lecturers have told us to stop calling ourselves 'journalism students' as we are actually 'trainee journalists'. I like that title. It sounds good and professional. It makes things seem more real. I feel all posh, ooo.
I'm back to trying to buy a paper every day. I like 'The I'. its 20p and it gives you the briefing of the news for that day and it's pretty darn good. I don't really enjoy reading papers like 'The Financial Times' as they are filled with too many stats for my liking. The Sun isn't also my preferred read (Is it many people's?!) Anyway, i'm really enjoying the course at uni still and the people are great which makes it even better. I feel like my career is in reach - despite how cheesy that sounds!
Hopefully, ten years from now, i can be writing for a magazine company and having a good ol' time.
We'll see.
