Despite not finding any good old northerners to talk to, I had a wonderful holiday and Barcelona was one of the highlights. I wanted to go and see the Cathedral and the docks, but unfortunately, due to the coach driver giving us only four hours (sounds a lot, but visiting all of Barcelona is trying to do all of London in one day) we just didn't have enough time. Fortunately, we managed to eat at a cute little restaurant (which I already forgot the name of) and enjoyed a lovely meal. This restaurant was not like any other I'd ever been to. Yes, it was THAT amazing. It was down a back alley (sounds scary, but its really not) and was a quiet place, with very few people inside. Bearing in mind, it was 5pm and mostly the Spanish eat a lot later in the evening. We were the only English people there (to nobody's surprise). You paid one set price, €11.95, and got unlimited salad and starter stuff (mainly nachos, monkey nuts, raisins, that sort of thing) and then as much hot food as you'd like. Sounds amazing, but the main courses were very limited to pizza and spaghetti. It was a strange place as there wasn't anybody cooking the food, it was just there on the side. It reminded me very much of a help-yourself-cafe. I don't think that many Spanish people actually eat dessert as in the restaurant/cafe, there was hardly any dessert, and it was mainly strange fruits. It was like this at our hotel actually. Disappointing for me as I prefer dessert to main courses/starters etc.
After we'd finished up eating, we went shopping and I made a quick stop at starbucks. There were 3 starbucks just in the main square in Barcelona, and I was spoilt for choice which one to visit. I'm not a coffee drinker, and it was too hot for tea, so I decided to try a frappacino. I'd never had one before, but i knew that it was basically ice cold blended coffee. I was daring and ordered a small caramel coffee frappacino for €4.95! The cashier got my name wrong and wrote 'Yess' on the coffee cup, even though i told her three times that my name was Jess, and when the time came for them to call out my drink, they kept shouting 'YESS' and not realising that it was me they were calling, i stood there looking like a fool for a while. It was quite manic. The cashier forgot to take my money, so i handed the money over, and she gave me a puzzled look. I nearly got a free coffee, but I decided that wouldn't be fair. In conclusion to my exciting trip to starbucks, I didn't like the frappacino. I drank the cream/caramel swirly mess but not the cold coffee. I'm just not a coffee drinker.
Barcelona is rather famous for the fountains in the main centre. They put on the show every night at 9pm and the fountains shoot up in the air with music and are filled with amazing colours. It was pretty spectacular. I got a few pictures as I thought it would be something to put on my blog. Enjoy the pictures!
