Shorthand is not for me. I can tell. After studying it for 90 minutes a day for a week now, it is the most difficult thing i've ever had to learn in my life. The worst part is that it is compulsory and it is a requirement for all journalism students at my university, regardless of whether you're a fresher or in your final year. It is the bane of my life currently. I know that with practice i'm sure i'll pick it up and soon be dreaming in shorthand (slightly worrying if this ever happens) and that if i ever pass this module, i of all people will be the most shocked. It's not even like an academic subject where i can just 'learn' a formula for something. It is a whole new language and i hate it.
I'm currently writing this post in between heavy sessions of shorthand as i have a test tomorrow which decides which shorthand group i will be put in to - top, middle or bottom and I am slowly losing the will to live. For one, all my flatmates are having fun and i can hear them enjoying themselves and i'm here practising shorthand and trying to convince myself that taking this module will be worth it in the end. Furthermore, I feel so tired that i may fall asleep just writing this post, despite a jaw dropping 10 hours sleep last night. I think freshers has finally caught up with me and my 'excessive' partying and lack of sleep is finally hitting me. hard. I should go now and continue on with my dictation of shorthand but who knows how long it will be until i give up and attack the remainder of my ben and jerrys? Hopefully I can say that by the end of this evening, it will have been immensely successful and I will be ready to take the test tomorrow.
We all know this will not happen.
Shorthand, come @ me bro.
